Ericsson Nikola Tesla Takes Part in 20th Mostar Fair

  Categories: Events

Croatia is a partner country of the 20th jubilee International Economy Fair – Mostar 2017, one of the greatest economic events in Bosnia and Herzegovina, which was ceremonially opened yesterday, in the presence of the Croatian Prime Minister Andrej Plenković. Among 800 exhibitors from around 30 countries, who present nearly all sectors of the economy, from agriculture, gastronomy, and tourism to ICT, Ericsson Nikola Tesla’s exhibition stand is prominent for its look and contents, and has attracted the attention not only of the delegations that arrived in protocolar order, but also of a great number of visitors.

“Digital Economy” Round Table

During the first day of events at the International Economy Fair Mostar 2017, a round table under the title “Digital Economy” was held. It was organized by the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts of the Republic of Croatia and Ericsson Nikola Tesla company. The introductory presentation was held by Gordana Kovačević, president of our company, pointing out that digital technology thoroughly changes the way we live, work and do business in all the segments of the society and all industries. As examples through which the company implements its Networked Society strategy and impacts a wide range of transformation processes, she singled out the informatization of healthcare system in the Republic of Croatia, whose quality has been recognized on a global level, as well as the introduction of a Joint Information System for Land Registry and Cadaster across Croatia.

Mario Antonić, State Secretary at the Ministry of Economy, Entrepreneurship and Crafts of the Republic of Croatia, noted the need to raise awareness on the importance of the digitalization of economy, particularly in the SME segment, where there is a great, but still not exploited enough, potential for growth.

Vlado Majstorović, PhD, Vice-Chancellor, Inter-University Cooperation at the University of Mostar, talked about the reform of education system as one of the key measures to ensure a sufficient number of adequately educated staff for economic growth and development, which would stop the youth from leaving to more developed countries that offer them better conditions. Moderator of the round table Ivan Lupić, Director of ICT for Industry and Society at Ericsson Nikola Tesla, showed that the reform of education system should be addressed in the widest sense, and one of the examples for that is the international Ericsson Nikola Tesla Summer Camp, where for 17 years now, students encounter the challenges of dealing with real ICT problems in real industrial projects. It is interesting to note that members of the audience of the round table were also students from the University of Mostar, who participated in the Summer Camp last year.

Saša Popovac, Head of Market Research and Strategic Planning Department at Croatian National Tourist Board, acknowledged a significantly strong impact of ICT on tourism, where nowadays the Internet is the most influential medium: from planning the trip to sharing travel experiences. However, the rest of the participants in this process should not be neglected, so in addition to applications that tourists find interesting, the Tourist Board developed the eVisitor system as well, which functionally connects all the tourist boards in the Republic of Croatia.

Goran Kraljević, Board Member and Chief Technical and Information Officer at HT Mostar, pointed out that the operators cannot and do not want to be solely the providers of the infrastructure any longer, rather they need to expand their business and develop a number of new services appropriate to the digital economy and offer not only locally, but also globally, a portfolio adapted to the users interested to participate in the digital world. He also added that he believed that by the end of the year, LTE network would finally be deployed in Bosnia and Herzegovina, enabling HT Mostar to make another step forward in its business and provide an even better communication experience to their users.

Andrea Čordaš, Managing Director at SPARK Business park, presented the activities performed by this center, whose aim is to transform Mostar into an information technology center. She said that she was aware that there was still a long way to go and pointed out that on this journey, SPARK wanted to be the leader of digital revolution in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

IoT Day

Seeing as agriculture is one of the sectors of industry that is not yet in full swing of the digital transformation of business, the visitors are particularly interested in our solutions in the field of e-agriculture and e-environment, aimed at boosting productivity and profitability of this sector, as well as consolidating all available data on the environment, their processing and dissemination to all interested parties. In such a complex process, an important role is played by the network operators as well. In light of this, on the second day of the fair, IoT day, co-organized by HT Mostar and Ericsson Nikola Tesla, concerning the services for the agriculture sector, was held and it caught the interest of a great number of visitors. During this five-day event, at the company’s exhibition stand, various services will be presented, which gather and analyze microlocation agrometeorological data and enable the users to make quality and timely decisions in the agricultural process.

Solutions Presented at the Company’s Exhibition Stand

In the segment of solutions intended for tourism (as well), an innovative digital platform was presented for the purpose of communicating with the market, as early as during the process of choosing a destination, planning the trip and staying at the destination, with a focus on the so-called “new media”, i.e. the Internet and mobile devices as the channels whose number of users is growing extremely quickly. The vision of this platform for digital tourism is to create unforgettable experience that the users will share with their friends via Internet, attracting new guests, but also wishing themselves to visit the same destination again. The presentation on mobile health covers a wide range of technological solutions, such as applications related to medical sensors or personal consultation system, and enables the gathering of a great amount of data, including medical data, lifestyle data, as well as the data on activities and the environment. The contents presented at the exhibition stand incorporates the experience in the field of mobile health from the projects carried out across the world, and gives an overview of the application field, a description of the solutions and the benefits that the implementation of mobile health brings to the patients, healthcare providers and the society at large.
