For more girls in IT

  Categories: Events

On the occasion of implementing the Declaration on Women in Digital, Central State Office for the Development of Digital Society organized a round table titled „Postani i TI, djevojka IT” at the Faculty of Electrical Engineering, Computer Science and Information Technology (FERIT) in Osijek. Marina Simunic, an expert working in our R&D Center in Osijek, was one of female role models working in ICT who talked about her positive experiences.

One of the ways in which the interest in IT can be increased among girls, is to promote female role models’ stories. Therefore, the participants of round table, female experts from various companies and institutions, spoke about their professional journey to girls from senior grades of secondary schools. By sharing their stories of success, they tried to encourage them to choose STEM professions.

Marina Simunic also sent this kind of message.

- If you are good in mathematics, logics and informatics, choose IT. There are jobs for STEM experts of all profiles, and they are various and interesting. You can program, test, work on development studies.... And you can do it here, in Osijek, you don’t have to go any further.

A good perspective for IT girls in Osijek was also highlighted by the City of Osijek and FERIT. Žana Gamoš, Deputy Mayor, is satisfied as there are positive shifts, although there is still a discrepancy in the representation of men and women in this industry. FERIT’s Dean, Darko Žagar, PhD, mentioned numerous FERIT’s activities that aim to increase the current share of female students of 15-20%, as this industry offers numerous opportunities and strengthens the position of women in the labor market.
