We mark the World Water Day on March 22, and the special circumstances related to the coronavirus pandemics remind us of the importance of water for the preservation of health and saving lives. Since hand hygiene (which we are constantly reminded to practice regularly) is the key for limiting the spread of COVID-19 and many other infectious diseases, now is the right moment to become aware of how important it is to have an adequate supply of clean water to protect ourselves, our loved ones and the community.
At the annual conference on corporate social responsibility, CSR Index awards were officially presented for the 12th consecutive time. Organized by the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development (HR PSOR) and the Croatian Chamber of Economy (HGK), and in the presence of numerous renowned guests, the awards were presented to companies for the best CSR achievements. The companies were awarded in nine categories, and more than a hundred companies entered the competition this year.
The signing of contracts with four selected contractors in the project “Improvement of energy efficiency and the use of renewable energy sources at Ericsson Nikola Tesla d.d.” marked the completion of the first phase of the works. These works will reduce the yearly energy consumption by more than 4.6 million kWh as well as reduce CO2 emissions by nearly 1400 tonnes.
You are probably familiar with the fact that Croatia has the third highest volume of water resources and the largest freshwater supplies per inhabitant in the EU. We also have the shortest river in the world – Ombla river with a course that is approximately 30 meters long. Did you know that our deepest lake, which is 84 m deep at only 14 m above the sea level, is not located on the mainland but on the island of Cres? It shares its name with the largest lake in Croatia, located approximately 200 kilometers away – Vransko jezero, near Biograd. This is one of the largest winter homes for birds.
Ericsson Nikola Tesla is the first company in Croatia to be awarded the European “cycle-friendly” certificate, whereby it joined the new initiative by socially responsible companies in Europe, sharing a common goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions, along with a positive impact on the health of their employees.
This year, for the eighth time, the Creativity and Innovation Day was held on May 22, at the Museum of Contemporary Art. Ericsson Nikola Tesla campaign “Rebuilding by Knowledge“ was caught in the net among the most quality innovative and creative products, together with education, tourism, socially responsible projects, etc. The campaign won the Award “MRAK”, presented by the Network for Development and Creativity (MRAK – Mreža za razvoj i kreativnost), as the best creative and innovative sustainable development project.
Under the auspice of the President of the Republic of Croatia, Ivo Josipović, on December 10, 2014, at Regent Esplanade Hotel in Zagreb, CSR Index Awards 2014 were officially presented. The Awards are jointly presented by the Croatian Chamber of Economy and the Croatian Business Council for Sustainable Development, with the aim to highlight Croatian companies that understand and properly implement corporate social responsibility. The companies compete in four categories, with regard to their size and ownership type.
