Ericsson Nikola Tesla Group emerges as leader in climate-related reporting

  Categories: Recognitions

According to recent research on the topic of large Croatian companies reporting on negative impacts on the climate, the awareness of the importance of recognizing, removing and reporting on the risks of negative impacts on the climate has not been raised sufficiently.Even though the results of the research are not encouraging and we hope that they will improve soon, we are proud that the research has shown that Ericsson Nikola Tesla Group is the only large company in Croatia which takes an overall look at the risks posed by negative impacts on the climate which arise from its activities and is also the absolute leader in reporting on the risks of negative impacts on the climate.

The research has covered 68 large companies in Croatia. The research results have shown that only few large companies in Croatia produce reports on the risks posed by negative impacts on the climate that arise from their business activities.

A detailed analysis revealed that only 18%, that is 12 companies from the sample covered by the research, produce reports on the negative impacts on the climate. As much as 82%, that is 56 companies included in the research, do not do it at all.

Furthermore, all 12 large companies in Croatia that produce reports on the risks of negative impacts on the climate that arise from their activities, state that the main risk of negative impacts on the climate are emissions of (greenhouse, CO2, toxic) gases into the atmosphere.

The conclusions emerging from the research show that in Croatia there is a predominantly low level of awareness of the risks posed by negative impacts on the climate that arise from companies’ activities. Moreover, in cases of recognizing one’s role and responsibility, the first step should generally be focused on greenhouse gas emissions into the atmosphere as the main risk of negative impacts on the climate and there is no developed awareness of other or overall risks posed by negative impacts exerted by companies on the climate.

“Climate change develops fast all over our planet. This is why the world today, more than ever before, needs urgent and decisive action to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and create a low-carbon economy which is resilient to climate change,” wrote the author of the research Matija Hlebar, who acts as chairman of Association for Sustainable Development of Croatia. Mr Hlebar states that it is extremely important that large companies, as well as all other companies in Croatia, are comprehensively informed, educated and made aware of the risks of negative impacts on the climate that arise from their activities. Moreover, as soon as possible, they should take concrete steps towards a common European goal, which is to preserve a climate that is favorable for our lives on planet Earth and for future generations.
