On October 16 & 17, Opatija hosted the Days of Croatian Tourism, the biggest annual gathering of tourist professionals. Our expert, Damir Medved, spoke about technology in tourism and solutions that our Company, in consortium with domain partners, can offer this sector.

The gathering was opened by Darko Lorencin, Minister of Tourism. The Mayor of Opatija, Ivo Dujmić, and the prefect of Primorsko-Goranska County, Zlatko Komadina, welcomed numerous participants and guests. Among numerous Croatian and foreign guests, the opening of the gathering was attended by the President of the Tourism Committee of the Croatian Parliament,  Goran Beus Richembergh, the Director of the Croatian National Tourist Board Head Office, Ratomir Ivičić and the President of the Croatian Chamber of Economy, Luka Burilović.

In his presentation, among other, Minister Lorencin highlighted: “Except exchanging knowledge and experience, the Days of Croatian Tourism have an important role in strengthening the cooperation between the private and the public sector, because in order to realize the Croatian Tourism Development Strategy, we should work and collaborate on all levels. The key term for this year’s Days of Croatian Tourism is Destination Management .This is the most complex challenge on which we wish to articulate the tourism policy. Although Destination Management is already applied, we wish to formalize it, and by using laws and regulations enable its smooth operating, so that in the end, everyone would accomplish the mutual goal – increasing our countries tourism competitiveness.

After the opening ceremony, a round table was held, under the title “Tourist Destination Management“. The participants of the round table were  Esencan Terzibasoglu, from the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), Aidan Pender, from an Irish National Tourism Development Authority, Failte Ireland, and Damir Medved, from Ericsson Nikola Tesla,  while the moderator role was given to Blanka Belošević, from Croatian Ministry of Tourism.  Damir Medved spoke about technology in tourism, highlighting that Croatia can achieve the Croatian Tourism Development Strategy goals, according to which, Croatia should be among Top 20 most competitive tourist countries by 2020. He added that Croatia can also be a Top Destination in the Mediterranean, with regard to technologies which are an important segment of the overall tourist sector. Ericsson Nikola Tesla, together with the company Multilink from Rijeka, Institute for Tourism from Zagreb, and the Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management from Opatija, formed an e:DMS Consortium, which can offer this sector the cutting edge solutions, based on domain knowledge.  The e:DMS Solution encompasses a set of services and ICT solutions, implementation of which can significantly contribute increasing competitiveness of tourist sector and the Croatian tourist regions, and thus have a long term positive impact on Croatia’s success in tourism.
