The ABC of Data – Foundation of Smart Solutions

  Categories: Events

Lider’s conference “SmartCities 2017” has opened numerous challenging questions, which were discussed through a number of lectures, positive examples and panel discussions, by experts from different fields, including Damir Medved from Ericsson Nikola Tesla.

Transformation of modern-day cities into smart cities originates in data, as the development of cities cannot be planned without an analysis of the existing situation and the introduction of indicators, whose follow-up will enable us to consider the realized progress. Seeing as the introduction of smart solutions is costly, the question is raised on how to monetize the existing data, enabling the implementation of new entrepreneur initiatives. These issues, including as well how to obtain information from data, the (un)ability to use the format of potentially published data and their IT (un)ability to be processed, were all discussed by the participants of the panel discussion under the title “The ABC of Data – Foundation of Smart Solutions” (“Podatkovna abeceda – temelj pametnih rješenja”), held on April 7, within the traditional conference, which attracted a great number of visitors at the Zagreb Fair.

The participants agreed that the process of raising administration’s awareness needs to be fully supported; by opening its data, the administration would enable a greater transparency and create necessary prerequisites for the implementation of business ideas and opportunities. Numerous studies have shown, and examples have confirmed, the positive effects of opening data for local and state economy, so the participants of the panel discussion concluded that activities on eliminating unnecessary legislative obstacles as well as education at all levels of local and state administration, should be reinforced. Here as well, as in many other cases of introducing new ICT solutions in all segments of the society, it has turned out that technology in fact is a challenge, but never a problem.
