Mostar Fair: Agreements on cooperation between the representatives of science and business in the field of ICT were signed

During the 21st Mostar Fair, among hundreds of exhibitors from more than twenty countries, representing nearly all sectors of the economy, this year once again Ericsson Nikola Tesla’s exhibition stand was prominent for its contents and look, and was visited by numerous business partners, customers and other visitors during the five-day event. Within the Fair’s activities, Ericsson Nikola Tesla and the University of Mostar signed an Agreement on cooperation between science and business in the field of ICT, with the purpose to jointly create an innovative knowledge society.

A part of the recently closed multimedia exhibition “Nikola Tesla - Mind from the Future”, to the realization of which the Company contributed, attracted the greatest interest of visitors and the delegations that arrived in protocolar order. The representation of a brain-computer interface in an IoT eco-environment, through which the use of personalized measurements of brain activities offers a potential to be used for various purposes, like remote device management, occasionally created a real crowd at the company's exhibition stand.

Due to the development of new technologies, there are more and more examples of successful implementations of “green solutions” which support a healthy environment. Thus, a project WaterQ was also presented, in which Ericsson Nikola Tesla, together with the Andrija Štampar Teaching Institute of Public Health, Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computing, University of Zagreb, and a startup Freewa, enables an automated collection and transfer of water quality and safety key parameters. Collecting, processing, analyzing and presenting data is performed on an innovative ICT platform called “e-Environment”, developed by Ericsson Nikola Tesla’s experts.

The system of intelligent care assistance for the support of elderly people, the project “Smart Habits” had its premiere at this year’s largest Mobile World Congress in Barcelona. This system, which enables an effective check on whether an elderly person living alone is ok, caught the attention of visitors in Mostar. The project was realized in the corporation incubator Ericsson Garage Croatia, as a part of  global Ericsson Garage network. By using advanced algorithms for machine learning, and based on data from unobtrusive sensors, typical for smart homes, the system can learn about a person’s habits and alert the family if unusual behavior is detected. The solution is not using devices that significantly invade privacy, such as cameras and microphones, and there is no need to wear any sensors which could interfere with everyday activities.

Among Mostar Fair’s activities, special attention was given to the signing of Agreement on cooperation in the field of ICT, signed between Ericsson Nikola Tesla and the University of Mostar, and between HT Eronet and the University of Mostar.

On this occasion, Rector of the University of Mostar, Zoran Tomić PhD, said: “Signing the Agreement with Ericsson Nikola Tesla and HT Eronet is very important for the University, since one of our strategic steps is to cooperate with business representatives, thereby simultaneously implementing our concept of social integration. The cooperation will surely result in an increase of research capacities and quality level of the existing studies, as well as the ability to start new study programs, in line with market demands.”

Vilim Primorac, president of Management Board of HT Eronet said he believes that such a positive story will create new ideas and new joint projects in the future, to the satisfaction of all parties.  “I am honored of the fact that Ericsson Nikola Tesla is our strong and reliable partner, as well as of the new direction which the University of Mostar is taking, which means opening towards business, and thus creating a foundation for improving and perfecting skills and knowledge, which opens numerous opportunities. Furthermore, on this occasion I would like to highlight that one of our company's key strategic goals is also technological development, for which I am sure it will find a positive response of our users in adopting products and services based on new technologies. We believe that Ericsson Nikola Tesla, as our very important partner, will contribute to our company’s efforts in fighting for market share and positioning in a demanding telecommunication market.

When commenting on this Agreement, Gordana Kovačević, MSc, president of Ericsson Nikola Tesla, highlighted that Ericsson Nikola Tesla is a leader in ICT development, and now, by focusing on 5G, it shows that the company is continuously focusing on innovation. “Our common goal is a society of knowledge, of new competences and excellence, and we believe that the synergy of our strategic partner, HT Eronet, Ericsson Nikola Tesla, and the University of Mostar, will create numerous new ideas and projects to create benefits for the society. In this process, we need connections with a wider, and primarily scientific community, with the purpose to create new innovative solutions. The advantages of such cooperation in the field of scientific and research activities are multiple: from developing new technologies and training people to creating new services and benefits, as well as forming innovative and sustainable knowledge society. I expect that the cooperation between the academia and business sector in the field of ICT will speed up digital transformation and facilitate business. With the solutions we have presented during Mostar Fair this year, we have confirmed our strong position as a socially responsible employer that creates innovative technology responses regarding all modern networked society challenges, and thus gives special attention to environmental protection. I am very pleased that our successful model of cooperation with the universities in Croatia and abroad will now also include the University of Mostar.
